Jantar Mantar is situated in Jaipur, Rajasthan one of the north Indian State situated to the west of India . Jaipur was founded by Swai Jai singh 11 in 1727 A.D. and it is 232 km from Agra and 300 km from Delhi . But, There are other Jantar-Mantars in Delhi , Ujjain , Varanasi and Mathura .

In Jaipur, the important tourist attraction is - Jantar Mantar, was originally built by Sawai Jay Singh II - the Maharaja of Jaipur. A little distance of Connaught Circus at Sansad Marg it was built in the mid 18th century. It is space observatory a house that is instrumental in observing astronomical and aeronotical movements of sun, moon and other stars and planets. The Jantar mantar at Jaipur is one of Jai Singh's five remarkable observatories built in the various parts of the country and is the largest of all. It was built to satisfy king's (Sawai Jai Singh) quest to find the mysteries of the sky as well as provide satisfaction to his architectural and astronomical instincts. The name "Jantar Mantar" is a modification of the Hindi words "yantra" meaning instruments, and "mantra" meaning formulae. It was built to study various phenomenon of astronomy like longitudes, latitudes, local time, constellations, declination of the sun, planets and the stars, and to determine eclipses. The monument was built to understand the movements of the sun and moon and to find answer various other astronomical mysteries. The observatory in Jaipur follows the one in Smarkand , Uzbekistan . The complex of the Jantar Mantar consists of the jaiprakash yantra, ram yantra, samrat yantra , and the 'composite instrument' which includes a sun-dial and a massive hemisphere on the northern wall .............. Jai Prakash Yantra : It is used to find out the positions of the celestial bodies during days and nights. It is a two hemispherical bowl structure, which represents the celestial sphere and there is a vertical rod in the center. |

Samrat Yantra : It consists of a massive triangle with a curved structure on both sides. |

Ram Yantra : It is an instrument used to indicate the altitude and the azimuth or declination of celestial bodies. |
